Short answer: if the current ground for stay of a foreigner holding a valid residence permit in Turkey ceases to exist or a different ground for stay arises, for a residence permit suitable for their new purpose transition application they are required to make. If the basis of the current permit has ceased, the application must be made within 10 days from the date the ground ceased. If an additional ground arises while the former ground continues, the foreigner may continue to stay with their current permit or apply for the new permit type without waiting for the 60-day extension period.

Residence permit transition applications may arise in various circumstances, such as transitioning from a student residence permit to a short-term permit, from a family residence permit to a short-term permit, from a tourism residence permit to property ownership, or to an appropriate residence permit after a work permit expires. This guide explains the 2026 transition periods, application stages, required documents, UETS and address requirements, and frequently encountered transition examples. For the general framework of residence permits, our guide to residence permits in Turkey you may review.

What is a Residence Permit Transition Application?

A residence permit transition application refers to an application by a foreigner for a different type of residence permit due to a change in the reason for their stay in Turkey. The legal basis is Of the Law on Foreigners and International Protection No. 6458, Article 29 and of the Regulation on the Implementation of the Law on Foreigners and International Protection, Article 26.

A transition application is not merely a request for a new card. All special conditions of the new residence type, along with general residence requirements, are re-examined. Having a previous residence permit does not mean that the new permit type will be granted automatically.

When the grounds for a student or family residence permit cease to exist, the foreigner may need to transition to another type of residence permit that suits their circumstances. If there is graduation, property ownership, tourism, or another reason specified by the law, conditions for transition to a short-term residence permit must be evaluated separately.

What is the Difference Between an Extension Application and a Transition Application?

SubjectExtension applicationTransition application
Purpose of the applicationContinuing to stay under the same type of residence permitTransitioning to a different permit type suitable for the new purpose of stay
Primary reasonCurrent permit conditions continueCurrent ground ceases to exist or a new ground arises
Application timeStarting 60 days before the card expiration and prior to the card's expirationWithin 10 days from the date of expiration if the previous ground has ceased
Reviewed documentsCurrent continuation documents for the same permit typeAll supporting documents for the new permit type being transitioned to
ConclusionNew residence permit card of the same type for a specified durationA residence permit card of a different type if the conditions are met

Selecting the same permit type as a transition by mistake, or selecting a different permit type as an extension, may create a discrepancy between procedure and purpose in the file. If remaining under the same type our residence permit extension application guide shall be taken as the basis.

In Which Circumstances is a Transition Application Made?

The cessation of the grounds forming the basis of the residence permit or the emergence of a different legal ground necessitates a transition application. Frequently encountered examples in practice are as follows:

  • Graduation of the student or termination of student status,
  • Termination of the marriage forming the basis of the family residence permit by divorce,
  • Death of the family residence permit sponsor,
  • The child holding a family residence permit reaching the age of eighteen,
  • Acquisition of a residence by the tourism residence permit holder that meets the required conditions,
  • Sale of the immovable property and the emergence of another valid ground for stay,
  • Cancellation or expiration of the work permit,
  • The humanitarian residence permit holder wishing to transition to another type of permit for which they meet the conditions,
  • The student residence permit holder acquiring the conditions for a family residence permit,
  • The foreigner changing the province of residence or the province where the university they study is located.

Not every change constitutes a "transition". Changes in address, marital status, or passport information may sometimes only require notification, whereas moving to another province may require a new residence permit application. It is important to determine the option appropriate to the foreigner's current legal status, rather than the title of the procedure.

Within How Many Days Must the Residence Permit Transition Application Be Made?

Pursuant to the Regulation, a foreigner who will continue to stay in Turkey after the grounds forming the basis for the issuance of the residence permit have ceased, within 10 days from the date on which the grounds ceased must apply to the relevant governorship for a residence permit suitable for the new purpose of stay.

The starting date here is not necessarily the expiration date printed on the card in every case. The date on which the legal event occurs—such as the completion of studies, the finalization of a divorce decree, the death of the sponsor, or the expiration of a work permit—may be critical. The fact that a later date is printed on the current card does not automatically extend the transition period if the grounds for the permit ceased to exist earlier.

StatusGeneral approach regarding timeframes
Current permit ground has expiredApplication for a permit suitable for the new purpose within 10 days from the date of expiration
Current ground continues, an additional ground has arisenStay can be maintained with the current permit, or a new permit can be requested without waiting for the 60-day extension period
Work permit has expired or been revokedApplication for a suitable residence permit within 10 days from the expiration or revocation
Work permit extension request has been rejected10 days as of the notification of the adverse decision
Relocated to another provinceApplication for residence in the new province within 20 business days at the latest

Can Applications Not Be Made If 10 Days Have Elapsed?

Applications made from within Turkey must, as a rule, be completed within the legal period. The Regulation stipulates that applications of those who exceed the legal stay period by up to ten days may also be accepted; however, fee and violation consequences may arise regarding the delayed period. This provision does not mean that a late application will definitely be accepted.

If the ten-day grace period or the legal stay period has elapsed, the onset of the violation, the current status of the foreigner, and the new permit ground must be examined together before making an application. The “additional ten days” is not a risk-free period that can be used to delay the application.

What Happens If a New Ground Arises While the Current Permit Ground Continues?

While a foreigner's current residence purpose continues, an additional ground for stay may arise. For instance, a tourist residence permit holder may purchase residential property meeting the requirements, or a student residence permit holder may qualify for a family residence permit.

Pursuant to Article 26 of the Regulation, the foreigner may continue to stay under their current permit or apply for a new residence permit without waiting for the 60-day period applicable to extension applications. Since the former ground has not yet expired in this case, the ten-day "expiration of the ground" period does not apply in the same manner. However, if a transition to a new permit type is desired, the requirements of the new type must be fully met.

The new ground for stay; tangible in Turkey arising from a commercial connection or the purpose of establishing a business, or at an authorized institution to Turkish language courses or TÖMER education may also rely on short-term residence grounds such as commencement. However, mere declaration of the new ground is insufficient; the specific requirements and supporting documents of the relevant permit type must additionally be provided.

Transition from Student Residence Permit to Short-Term Residence Permit

Student status may terminate due to graduation, deregistration, disenrollment, or inability to continue education. Once the legal basis for the student residence permit ceases to exist, a foreigner wishing to continue residing in Turkey must take the 10-day transition period into account.

What Does the Six-Month Rule After Graduation Mean?

Foreigners who complete their higher education in Turkey may apply for a short-term residence permit for a maximum duration of one year, granted on a one-time basis, provided they apply within six months from the graduation date. However, this regulation does not grant a graduated foreigner the right to stay in Turkey for six months without making an application.

Six-month period, the maximum time period during which the graduation-specific short-term residence permit justification can be utilized; the 10-day period refers to the procedural time limit for the transition application to be made after the current grounds for residence have ceased. These two periods must not be confused with one another.

For detailed information regarding the conditions, required documents, maximum one-year permit duration, and the transition procedure from a student residence permit for short-term residence permit applications that can be made within six months from the graduation date, post-graduation residence permit you may review our guide.

For student status, university documents, and other implementation details, our student residence permit guide you may review.

Transition from Student Residence Permit to Family Residence Permit

If a student residence permit holder meets the conditions for obtaining a family residence permit, a family residence permit may be issued to them. The Regulation stipulates that as long as student conditions continue, this person shall fully enjoy the rights provided by the student residence permit.

A marriage or kinship relationship alone is not sufficient for a family residence permit. The sponsor's income, health insurance, address registration, and other conditions, along with the applicant's conditions, are evaluated together. For detailed information, to our family residence permit guide you can refer.

Transition from Family Residence Permit to Short-Term Residence Permit

The legal basis for a family residence permit may terminate due to reasons such as divorce, the death of the sponsor, or the child reaching the age of majority. Automatic transition to a short-term residence permit does not occur in every case. The special conditions set forth in Law No. 6458 must be met.

Grounds for termination of family residencePrimary condition regarding the transition to short-term residence
Divorce from a Turkish citizen spouseAs a rule, having resided with a family residence permit for at least three years
Divorce due to domestic violenceIf victimization is proven by a court decision, the three-year period is not required
Death of the sponsorNo duration condition is required for persons staying under a family residence permit dependent on the sponsor
The child reaching the age of eighteenMust have resided in Turkey with a family residence permit for at least three years

The date of finalization of the divorce decree, the court decision indicating domestic violence, the death certificate of the sponsor, and previous residence periods are significant in the file. If the conditions are not met, it is additionally examined whether the foreigner has a tourism, property ownership, work, or another valid ground for stay.

Transition from Tourism Residence Permit to Real Estate Residence Permit

A foreigner holding a short-term residence permit for tourism purposes may request a transition to the ground of property ownership upon acquiring a residence suitable for residence permit purposes. If the previous tourism ground continues, the transition application can be made without waiting for the commencement of the 60-day extension period.

The real estate must independently meet the value requirement, be of residential nature, belong to the applicant, and be actually used for residence purposes. The values of different properties cannot be aggregated. For detailed conditions, our property residence permit guide; regarding the tourism permit, our tourism residence permit guide you may review.

Can You Switch to Another Type of Residence Permit If the Real Estate Is Sold?

When a foreigner residing on the grounds of property ownership sells the residence, the basis for the permit may terminate. If the stay in Turkey is to be continued, a permit appropriate for the new purpose of stay must be evaluated by taking into account the 10-day transition period starting from the date of sale.

In the event of acquiring a new residence, the fulfillment of family residence conditions, student status, or the existence of another short-term ground, a transition may be requested with the relevant documents. Relying solely on the expiration date indicated on the old card without a new ground creates the risk of cancellation and violation.

Transition to a Residence Permit Upon Expiration of a Work Permit

A valid work permit substitutes for a residence permit for the duration of its validity. The date on which the work permit expires is also the date on which this legal basis for stay terminates. A foreigner whose work permit is cancelled or has expired must apply for a residence permit for which they meet the conditions within 10 days if they intend to continue staying in Turkey.

If the work permit extension application is rejected, the ten-day period begins as of the date of service of the adverse decision. For details regarding the expiration of the work permit our foreign work permit guide you may review.

Transition from Humanitarian Residence Permit to Another Residence Permit

A holder of a humanitarian residence permit may apply for any other residence permit for which they meet the statutory requirements during the validity of their permit; however, they cannot directly transition to a long-term residence permit. Periods spent under a humanitarian residence permit shall not be taken into account in the calculation of the residence periods stipulated in the Law.

Simply holding a humanitarian residence card is not sufficient for transitioning to a new permit type. The respective conditions for family, student, property, or short-term permits must also be met. Regarding the special nature of the humanitarian permit our guide on humanitarian residence permits you can refer.

Transition Application Upon Change of University or Province

A student's change of faculty, department, or university within the same province, as well as continuing their education in another province, are subject to different procedures. According to YİMER's current frequently asked questions , changes within the same province must be reported to the student affairs office within 20 days. If higher education is to be continued in a different province, an application must be made via e-Ikamet by selecting the province where the new university is located within 10 days of the change, and the documents must be submitted to the student affairs office.

Regarding general address changes and relocation to another province our guide on changing cities for residence permit you may review.

How to Apply for a Residence Permit Transition?

  1. The status of the previous permit ground is determined: It is ascertained whether the ground has ceased to exist and the date of such cessation is established.
  2. A new purpose of stay is selected: It is examined whether all the requirements of the permit type to be applied for are met.
  3. The period is calculated: If the grounds have ceased to exist, the 10-day period; if the province has changed, the relevant 20 business days or special periods shall be taken into consideration.
  4. e-Residence application is made by: selecting the transition application on the e-Residence system and entering the information completely.
  5. General and specific documents are prepared: Identity, passport, address, insurance, UETS, and supporting documents for the new permit type are completed.
  6. Appointment and delivery instructions are complied with: The procedure specified by the administration or, in student applications, by the authorized student office is followed.
  7. Notifications are monitored: Additional documents or decision notices are checked via UETS, the system, telephone, and e-mail.

of the Directorate General of Migration Management official general announcements , initial, extension, and transition applications are received via e-Residence. If deemed necessary by the administration, the applicant may be required to be present in person or to submit additional documents.

Required Documents for Transition Application

The document list varies according to the new permit type. The basic file generally includes the following:

  • Signed residence permit application form,
  • Relevant pages of the passport or substitute document,
  • Photocopy of the current residence permit or work permit card,
  • Biometric photographs taken within the last six months,
  • Valid health insurance covering the requested period,
  • Declarations and documents regarding sufficient and regular financial means,
  • Current settlement and accommodation documents,
  • UETS information form, if required,
  • Receipts for residence permit fee and document cost,
  • Student certificate, title deed, family ties, court order, death certificate or other specific documents demonstrating the new purpose of stay.

of the Directorate General of Migration Management official short-term residence permit document list and the current list pertaining to the type of permit being transitioned to must be checked prior to the application. For documents obtained from abroad, an apostille, approval by a foreign representative office, and a notarized Turkish translation may be required.

If an appointment has been scheduled for the transition application, the foreigner must be present at the specified date and place. For detailed information regarding the consequences of failing to attend the appointment without a valid excuse, the possibility of re-application, and acceptable excuses, what happens if you do not attend the residence permit appointment you may review our guide.

UETS and Address Registration in Transition Applications

The current official document list states that address registration is mandatory for extension and transition applications. A settlement place document along with documents appropriate for the status of rented housing, the person's own property, a dormitory, a hotel, or staying with a third party must be submitted.

The specific application types for which the UETS information form is required must be verified through the current document list generated by e-İkamet. UETS is important for tracking electronic notifications to be made to the foreigner. A UETS document is not required for minors under the age of eighteen. Failure to track notifications may result in missing application or litigation deadlines.

The address declared in the application must match the foreigner's actual place of residence. For detailed information regarding address verification that may be conducted by law enforcement, absence from the residence during inspection, the status of cohabitants, and potential recourse against adverse findings, residence permit address inspection and investigation process you may review our guide.

Can One Stay in Turkey While the Transition Application is Pending?

A residence permit application document is issued to the foreigner who makes a timely and duly filed transition application. Pursuant to the Regulation, this document grants the right to stay in Turkey until the application is concluded. Merely creating a draft form, failing to attend the appointment, or not completing the file does not produce the same legal consequence.

If the application documents are deficient, the administration may grant a period to complete them. Pursuant to the Regulation, if the requested missing or supplementary documents are not submitted within 30 days, the application shall be considered withdrawn.

A decision of withdrawal issued upon failure to complete missing documents within the prescribed period is not the same legal proceeding as the rejection of the application on the merits. For detailed information regarding the consequences of the decision, the possibility of re-application, and its differences from a rejection decision, withdrawal of the residence permit application from processing you may review our guide.

Can One Travel Abroad While the Transition Application is Pending?

Departure may be made with the receipt showing that the residence fee has been paid and the valid application document, provided that the stay remains within the requested permit period. If returned within 15 days after each departure, a visa requirement exemption shall apply upon entry. If the fifteen-day period is exceeded, general visa provisions shall apply.

Before traveling, the validity of the application document, the required approval, the passport validity period, and the receipts must be checked. A screenshot or an incomplete form does not substitute for a travel document.

For detailed information regarding the legal nature of the application document, the approval of the document, traveling with fee receipts, and the 15-day return period to be applied after each departure, traveling abroad with the residence permit application certificate you may review our guide.

How Long Does a Transition Application Take to Be Concluded?

Residence permit applications shall be concluded within a maximum of 90 days from the date when the information and documents are fully submitted to the competent authority. A request for missing documents, institutional investigations, or conducting an interview may affect the timeline. The extension of the application process does not inherently mean a rejection.

To track the application, e-İkamet, UETS, and registered contact information must be checked regularly. For official information, YİMER 157 applications can be made via.

For detailed information regarding the commencement of the ninety-day period, the effect of missing documents on the time calculation, whether the delay of the application implies automatic approval or rejection, and official tracking methods that can be utilized, what to do if a residence permit application is not concluded within 90 days you may review our guide.

When the transition application is concluded positively, the printing and delivery process of the residence card corresponding to the new permit type must be tracked separately. For procedures to be followed in the event of loss, theft, failure of delivery by PTT, or shipment to an incorrect address, loss or non-delivery of the residence card you may review our guide.

2026 Transition Application Fees and Document Costs

of the Directorate General of Migration Management According to the official fee schedule for 2026, the residence permit document fee is 964 TL. The residence permit fee is calculated based on nationality, the principle of reciprocity, and the requested duration. As a rule, citizens of countries exempt from the permit fee are still required to pay the document fee.

If a new card is issued for the same type of permit due to relocation to another province, the period for which the fee has already been paid shall not be subject to the fee again. However, the new card and other processing fees must be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Why is a Residence Permit Transition Application Rejected?

  • Filing the application after the expiration of the 10-day period or the relevant special timeframe,
  • Failure to prove the new purpose of stay with genuine and up-to-date documents,
  • Failure to meet the specific conditions of the newly applied permit type,
  • Concealing the termination of the previous permit ground or declaring an incorrect date,
  • Incompleteness of address, passport, insurance, UETS (National Electronic Notification System), or income documents,
  • Failure to attend the appointment without a valid excuse,
  • Failure to complete the supplemental documents within the given period,
  • Submission of forged, misleading, or contradictory documents,
  • The conviction that the permit type will be used for purposes other than its issuance,
  • Having a valid deportation order or entry ban to Turkey.

The rejection of a transition application and the cancellation of a foreigner's previously held residence permit are distinct administrative acts. For detailed information regarding the grounds for which the former permit may be cancelled, the consequences of the cancellation decision, notification, and the litigation process, annulment of residence permit and annulment action you may review our guide.

In the event of the rejection of a transition application, the grounds and the date of service must be examined together. Precedent Decision: Affirmation of the Annulment Decision Regarding the Rejection of the Transition Application to a Student Residence Permit

Council of State, 10th Chamber, E. 2016/711, K. 2020/5931, T. 08.12.2020

This decision of the 10th Chamber of the Council of State is significant regarding whether an application for transition from a different type of residence permit to a student residence permit can be rejected solely on the basis of assumptions. To the full text of the decision shared can be accessed via the link.

Subject Matter of the Dispute

The plaintiff, a Ukrainian citizen, has previously resided legally in Turkey within the scope of family residence permits and short-term residence permits for tourism purposes. Having enrolled in the preparatory class of the French Language Teaching Department at Marmara University Atatürk Faculty of Education and obtained a student certificate, the plaintiff applied to transition from their current residence permit type to a student residence permit.

The Istanbul Governorship rejected the transition application, asserting that the plaintiff did not have definitive registration and requested the student residence permit merely to continue staying in Turkey, contrary to the purpose for which the permit is granted. Consequently, a lawsuit was filed in the administrative court requesting the annulment of the rejection act.

Grounds for Annulment by the Court of First Instance

The Administrative Court evaluated that, according to the up-to-date student certificate in the case file, it was established that the plaintiff is a university student. It was also taken into consideration in the decision that the administration's claim regarding the absence of definitive registration was not supported by concrete evidence and that no official correspondence was conducted with the university in this regard.

The court concluded that the administration failed to demonstrate with concrete and legally valid evidence that the plaintiff, who applied for a student residence permit for educational purposes, did not meet the conditions stipulated in the legislation, and thereby annulled the rejection procedure.

Decision of Approval by the 10th Chamber of the Council of State

Examining the appeal application of the defendant administration, the 10th Chamber of the Council of State found the court of first instance's decision to be in compliance with procedural and substantive law. The Chamber dismissed the appeal request and upheld the decision annulling the procedure regarding the rejection of the transition application.

In the dissenting opinion, it was argued that the plaintiff sought a suitable residence type in order to continue residing in Turkey and to apply for citizenship in the future, and therefore the student residence permit was intended to be used for purposes other than its issuance. However, this approach was not adopted by the majority, and the annulment decision was upheld.

The Significance of the Decision Regarding Transition Applications

The decision highlights the importance of documentation demonstrating an active and genuine student status in applications for transition to a student residence permit. If the administration believes that the application solely serves the purpose of remaining in Turkey, it must justify this assessment with case-specific investigations, university records, and concrete evidence. Mere suspicion or an uninvestigated claim of a nominal registration does not, by itself, render the rejection lawful according to the majority approach in this decision.

However, the decision does not mean that every transition application accompanied by a student certificate will be mandatorily approved. The student status must be genuine and current, the application must be filed within due time, the required documents must be submitted, and the other conditions for a student residence permit must be met in the specific case file. Each rejection must be evaluated individually within the framework of its grounds, the underlying investigation, and the applicant's personal situation.

Commercial Connection Residence Permit Transition Lawsuit Handled by Our Firm

In a lawsuit filed and pursued by Atty. Batın Yılmaz, a foreign national whose grounds for a student residence permit had expired applied for a short-term residence permit for commercial connection or business establishment purposes based on the company in which they are a partner. Although the Trade Registry Gazette, circular of signature, and tax plate of the company were submitted during the application, the application was rejected on the grounds that the purpose of stay in Turkey could not be justified by legitimate reasons.

The Istanbul 1st Administrative Court annulled the rejection action, stating that there were documents in the file supporting and capable of proving the commercial purpose of stay. For the details of the dispute, the court's evaluation of the documents, and the anonymized copy of the decision, our review of the annulment decision regarding the rejection of the commercial connection residence permit you can read.

This decision does not mean that establishing a company or becoming a company partner will grant a residence permit in every case. The authenticity of the new purpose of stay, the legal and de facto status of the company, the applicant's position within the company, and the other conditions of the short-term residence permit shall be evaluated separately.

Most Common Mistakes in Transition Applications

Relied Upon the Card's Expiry Date

During a transition, the 10-day period generally commences not from the card's expiry date, but from the date when the ground for the permit terminates. A post-dated card does not extend a terminated student status or family tie.

Assuming the Six-Month Post-Graduation Period Confers Legal Right to Stay

The six-month period following graduation is the timeframe during which a short-term residence permit based on graduation may be requested. It does not constitute an automatic six-month right to stay without application following the expiration of the student permit.

Failing to Verify the Requirements of the New Permit Type in Advance

A previous residence card does not substitute for the fulfillment of the requirements of a new permit type. Real estate value, family sponsor, active student status, or other specific legal grounds must be proven independently.

Choosing Extension Instead of Transition

Applying for an extension of the same permit type when the purpose of stay has changed may create a contradiction between the purpose of the application and the submitted documents.

Failing to Monitor UETS and Notifications

Requests for additional documents and notices of rejection may entail time-sensitive consequences. UETS, telephone, and e-mail contact information must be kept up to date.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a residence permit transition application?

It is an application made for another residence permit suitable for a new purpose when the ground for the current residence permit expires or a different ground for stay arises.

Within how many days must the transition application be made?

If the basis of the current residence permit has expired, the transition application must be made within 10 days from the date the justification expires.

Does the 10-day period for the transition application start from the expiration of the card?

Not always. The ten-day period starts from the date on which the grounds forming the basis of the residence permit cease to exist. This date may be prior to the expiration date written on the card.

Can one transition to another permit type while the grounds for the current permit still exist?

Yes. If a new ground has arisen in addition to the existing ground, the foreigner may stay with their current permit or apply for a new permit type without waiting for the 60-day extension period.

Can a graduated student stay for six months without making an application?

No. The six-month period is the maximum duration within which a short-term residence permit based on graduation may be requested, and it is not a period of lawful stay without an application. The 10-day period for transition applications must also be taken into consideration.

Can a transition be made to a short-term residence permit if the family residence permit terminates due to divorce?

As a rule, a foreigner married to a Turkish citizen can transition to a short-term residence permit if they have resided with a family residence permit for at least three years. If victimization due to domestic violence is proven by a court decision, the three-year requirement is not sought.

Within how many days must an application for a residence permit be made after the work permit expires?

A foreigner whose work permit has expired or been revoked must apply for a residence permit for which they meet the conditions within 10 days if they intend to continue staying in Türkiye.

Can a transition be made from a tourism residence permit to a property residence permit?

Yes. If the residence forming the basis of the application meets the value, qualification, ownership, and actual use conditions of the property residence permit, a transition may be requested.

Does the former residence permit continue while a transition application is pending?

The existing permit is terminated as of the date when the justification upon which it was granted ceases to exist. The application certificate issued upon a duly made application provides the right to stay in Türkiye until the application is concluded.

Can one travel abroad while a transition application is pending?

If departure is made with a valid application document and fee receipt, and a return is made within 15 days each time, a visa exemption upon entry may apply.

In how many days is a transition application concluded?

Residence permit applications shall be concluded within a maximum of 90 days from the date when the information and documents are fully submitted to the competent authority.

What is the residence permit card fee in 2026?

According to the Directorate General of Migration Management's official statement for 2026, the residence permit card fee is 964 TL. The residence fee is calculated separately based on nationality and the requested duration.

Conclusion and Legal Assessment

The most critical issue in a residence permit transition application is accurately determining the expiration date of the previous permit ground and submitting the application appropriate to the new purpose of stay in a timely manner. Relying solely on the card's expiration date, assuming a six-month post-graduation period constitutes legal stay, or applying without researching the conditions of the new permit type may create risks of violations and rejection.

Each event—such as graduation, divorce, death of a sponsor, sale of real estate, termination of a work permit, or change of province—has a different starting date and documentation procedure. For our scope of services in immigration law, our immigration law service page you may review.
