During the application review, factors such as the student status, level of education, nature of the work, city of employment, financial and employment conditions of the employer, the wage to be paid to the foreign national, and the compatibility of the applied profession with the student are evaluated collectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this guide, <strong>the right to work of international students in Turkey<\/strong>; has been examined separately for associate, undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students; and work permit applications, weekly hour limits, mandatory internships, SSI (Social Security Institution), employer changes, graduation, and grounds for refusal have been explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Yabanci_Ogrenciler_Turkiyede_Calisabilir_mi\"><\/span>Can Foreign Students Work in Turkey?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes. International students enrolled in a formal education program at a higher education institution in Turkey may work, provided that they fulfill the conditions specified in the legislation and a work permit is obtained on their behalf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The right to work for international students is primarily regulated under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mevzuat.gov.tr\/MevzuatMetin\/1.5.6458.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Law No. 6458 on Foreigners and International Protection<\/a> with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mevzuat.gov.tr\/MevzuatMetin\/1.5.6735.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International Workforce Law No. 6735<\/a> . Furthermore, current criteria published by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security are applied in the evaluation of the application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At this point, three distinct legal statuses must be distinguished from one another:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Student certificate<\/strong>, indicates that the person is enrolled in a higher education program.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Student residence permit<\/strong>, ensures the legal stay of the foreigner in Turkey for educational purposes.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Work permit<\/strong>, grants the right to work within the scope of a specific employer, workplace, and duty.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Therefore, university enrollment or a student residence permit does not independently constitute work authorization. For these students, the weekly working hours cannot exceed 24 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The term \"first year\" refers not merely to the student's presence in Turkey in terms of a calendar year, but to the completion of the first academic year in the higher education program in which they are enrolled. Applications filed while the student's first academic year is ongoing may be denied due to the fact that the right to work has not yet accrued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 24-hour weekly limit applies not only to the duration stipulated in the employment contract, but also to the work actually performed. The student's total working time spread across different days must not exceed this limit. Requiring overtime or employing the student full-time may entail legal and administrative consequences for both the employer and the foreign national.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Yuksek_Lisans_ve_Doktora_Ogrencileri\"><\/span>Master's and Ph.D. Students<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first-year completion and part-time work restrictions stipulated for associate and undergraduate students do not apply to work permit applications regarding master's and Ph.D. students enrolled in formal education programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This does not mean that a graduate student can work without obtaining a work permit. Master's or Ph.D. students must also hold a work permit before commencing employment. Furthermore, the position applied for is evaluated with respect to the foreigner's educational background, professional qualifications, and the employer's field of activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The employment of graduate students in positions related to their education that require expertise, research, technology, foreign trade, or foreign languages may facilitate explaining the correlation between the job and the student's academic qualifications.
